  • SOLO foam sprayers: clingy foam, precise dosing – and finally no more fuss in the wash

How do you pick the right SOLO foam sprayer? Grab the size that fits (2/4/9 L) and the right seal (A for pH 1–7, B/FB for pH 7–14), then dial the foam wetness in on your pre-wash job with VARIOfoam.

SOLO foam sprayers are what we at Detailing1 call the control centre of the pre-wash: you don't just slap cleaning foam on somehow, you lay it down exactly the way you need it – from dry/clingy to wet/gel-like, with no wild experiments on the dilution ratio. In this sub-category you'll only find the SOLO foam sprayers with varioFOAM foam adjustment – specifically the models 304 FA/FB (2 litres), 333 FA (4 litres) and 309 FA/FB (9 litres).

    • Consistent foam quality instead of “works today, not tomorrow”. The varioFOAM nozzle is built to vary the foam's wetness with a dial – even while you're working. That's worth its weight in gold when foam runs off faster on warm paint, or when you want more dwell time in cold weather.
    • Chemistry match through the seals: A vs. B/FB. SOLO splits the units by seal material and pH window: FKM for acidic cleaners (pH 1–7) and EPDM for neutral/alkaline cleaners (pH 7–14). So you're not buying just “any” foamer, but the right one for your products.
    • Scales from “daily” to “big surface area”. 2 litres for a quick round, 4 litres with hose/lance for comfortable work, 9 litres when you really want to cover ground – without constant refills and without chopping up your workflow.

varioFOAM foam nozzle and foam quality

varioFOAM in day-to-day use is less a “feature” and more your lever for a repeatable process: you set the foam wetness to match the job. Dry, clingy foam grabs on longer and doesn't run straight off – ideal when you want maximum contact time on vertical panels, or when the grime film is more stubborn. Wetter, gel-like foam, on the other hand, can make sense when you need more wetting, want to work faster, or you notice that foam that's too dry pulls “crumbly streaks” and won't sit as an even sheet. The key thing: you don't have to keep fiddling with the mix, you change the foam character right on the unit – and while you're spraying, too. That's exactly the “on-the-fly” adjustment SOLO describes: a dial that lets you tweak the wetness even mid-job.

For car care workflows that means you can make the pre-wash far more repeatable. For example: on warm, dark paint in summer you'll happily reach for slightly clingier foam to cut down on quick run-off. In winter – when everything reacts slower and you often work in stages – a touch wetter foam can improve even wetting without you going “too wet”. And because we're talking hand foam sprayers here (not a foam lance on a pressure washer), dosing control matters even more: your foam has to sit, because you're using it deliberately as a step to loosen dirt with less contact – not as “show snow”.

FKM and EPDM seals and pH ranges in car care

FKM and EPDM aren't nerdy acronyms for detailers – they're the answer to a very real question: “Why does my sprayer last forever, or why does it suddenly go tired after a few weeks?” SOLO sorts the CLEANLine units clearly by seal material, and with it by typical chemistry profiles. FKM seals are meant for acidic cleaners in the low pH range (1–7); EPDM seals for neutral to alkaline media (7–14). You'll find exactly that logic back in the model names with us too: in this category the 304 comes as FA (pH 1–7) and FB (pH 7–14), the 309 as FA/FB (pH 1–7 and 7–14 respectively), and the 333 as FA (pH 1–7).

What does that mean in practice? If you work with an alkaline pre-wash, snow-foam pre-wash or a strong APC foam, you want the EPDM version (B/FB). If instead you're using an acidic, foam-capable product (e.g. for special cleaning jobs), then the FKM version (A/FA) is the clean pick. The A/B labelling isn't random at SOLO, it's spelled out exactly that way: “B” is for use with bases/alcohols in the pH 7–14 range, “A” for the correspondingly acidic uses – plus the typical material properties of the seals. Pro tip from day-to-day: whether A or B, rinse the bottle out with clean water after the job. Not a lecture, just a dead-simple investment in longevity: dried-in residue changes foaming and valve behaviour faster than you can say “why's this thing dripping?”

SOLO models 304 FA FB, 333 FA, 309 FA FB for pre-wash and big surfaces

304 FA/FB is the sweet spot when you want to stay as flexible as possible: 2 litres, handy, quick to top up – and with the FA/FB duo you cover exactly the chemistry split that comes up most in detailing (acidic vs. alkaline). In our category the 304 is listed as “CLEANLine ‘VARIOfoam’ (304 FA / FB) 2 litre foam sprayer” – including the note that the 304 FB is meant for alkaline (pH 7–14) and the 304 FA for acidic (pH 1–7). So if you switch between products a lot or want to keep different jobs cleanly separated (e.g. “foam pre-wash” vs. a special acidic foam), this is your clean way in.

333 FA is the comfort option when you work longer stretches at a time: 4 litres of volume, plus hose and lance in the version we carry – that makes handling around the car noticeably more relaxed, because you're not constantly wrestling the bottle right up against the panel. At Detailing1 it's listed as “CLEANLine ‘VARIOfoam’ (333 FA) 4 litre foam sprayer with coil hose” and assigned to the acidic range (pH 1–7).

309 FA/FB is the big-area tool: 9 litres, for when you really cover ground – whether that's several cars, large bodywork, or simply a setup where refilling is your flow-killer number one. Here too the A/FB split is stated directly with us (309 FA pH 1–7, 309 FB pH 7–14).
