What is the ZviZZer Thermo Allrounder Pad Hard? A hard red polishing pad made of open-cell thermo foam with a built-in rubber support layer, made for serious cut on DA and rotary. The red grade removes scratches and holograms with a strong compound. Not for the final high-gloss step and not for very soft clear coats that burn through quickly.
The ZviZZer Thermo Allrounder Pad Hard is a hard polishing pad from ZviZZer made of open-cell thermo foam, marked red for the hard cutting grade in the five-step colour system. Between the hook-and-loop backing and the foam sits a rubber support layer that spreads the pressure evenly across the working face, damps vibration and stops polish wicking into the hook-and-loop. The open-cell thermo foam holds its shape better than standard foam under friction heat and keeps the cut consistent across the whole pass.
Day-to-day from Detailing1: The most common mistake with a hard pad is too much pressure and too little polish. Lean the pad into the paint and you get friction heat instead of cut — on 2026 paint we had a dull haze instead of correction within seconds. Let the abrasives in the polish do the work: a pea-sized amount on the pad, spread at about 1,000 rpm, then work it in with medium pressure at up to 1,800 rpm. The hard pad delivers its cut through the abrasives, not through your elbow grease.
Spread a pea-sized amount of polish at about 1,000 rpm, then work it in with light to medium pressure at up to 1,800 rpm until the polish film turns clear.
It runs on DA and rotary alike. The paint has to be clean, washed and decontaminated, or a speck of dirt in the pad drags fine scratches. Work in sections of about 40 by 40 centimetres and pair the hard red pad with a strong HC 4000 compound, whose colour is matched to the red grade in the ZviZZer system.
Keep the pad clean: after two or three sections, knock out the polish dust or switch to a fresh pad. A clogged pad just smears and stops cutting. Prime new pads with a little polish before first use so the open-cell foam takes it up evenly instead of grabbing dry in patches.
The hard red pad is made for serious cut: with the right compound it pulls out scratches, holograms and weathered clear coat, but it's too coarse for that last per cent of high gloss.
Its home turf is the correction step before finishing. With a highly abrasive compound it works out defects a soft pad would only polish over. The open-pore structure keeps the cutting performance at the same level the whole time instead of fading as you polish.
The limits, honestly: a hard pad won't finish hologram-free. After correction comes a softer step. If you're building out holograms and final gloss, go for the softer Thermo Allrounder Pad Medium with a one-step or finishing polish. If you're taking out even deeper damage on tough paint, go one grade up to the blue Ultra Hard pad. On very soft Japanese clear coats a hard pad can quickly leave holograms or overheat the paint locally — there you're better off working a grade softer.
The hard Thermo Allrounder Pad is the right call if you're taking out real defects and want a pad that doesn't collapse under heat and holds its cut.
Because it runs on DA and rotary, it fits almost any polishing workflow, from keen beginners to seasoned detailers. It's the correction building block of the graded ZviZZer pad system and part of our polishing pads and sanding sponges. The five sizes from Ø 50 to 165 millimetres cover everything from a mirror edge to a big bonnet: the small 50 for tight spots, the 140 and 165 for large panels.
It's less suited to pure gloss lovers who only want a refresh without removing defects, and to show-car finishers who run a dedicated finishing step at the end anyway. If you need both on a regular basis, you're better off with several grades from the Allrounder system than with a single pad.
The one thing most people underestimate: pad hardness and polish abrasives work together, not against each other. A hard pad with a fine polish gives less cut than you'd expect; a soft one with a coarse polish gives more than you'd think. Match the grade to the polish instead of just cranking up the pressure, and you'll get more correction and less heat out of every pass — which is exactly what the red grade is built for.
Not sure about ZviZZer Thermo Allrounder Pad "Hard" thermo foam pad (Red)? Get it explained:
Add Detailing1 as a preferred source on GoogleThe Thermo Allrounder Pad Hard is a hard red polishing pad made of open-cell thermo foam with a built-in rubber support layer. The support layer spreads the pressure evenly and damps vibration, while the thermo foam holds its shape under friction heat. In the ZviZZer system, red stands for the hard cutting grade for serious cut.
You match the pad hardness to the polishing step. A hard red pad with a strong HC 4000 compound gives the most cut for scratches and holograms. For the finishing step and building gloss, use a softer pad. Hardness and polish abrasives work together, not against each other.
The hard red pad gives more cut and is meant for the correction step; the medium orange pad finishes finer and suits one-step work and building gloss. Within the system, red stands for hard cut and orange for medium cut. One grade harder is the blue Ultra Hard pad.
Yes. The Thermo Allrounder Pad runs on random orbital or dual-action machines as well as rotary polishers. It comes in five sizes from Ø 50 to 165 millimetres, so you pick the backing plate to match the pad size. The small 50 is for tight spots, the 140 and 165 for large panels.
The most common mistake is too much pressure and too little polish. That creates friction heat instead of cut, leaving haze or even holograms on soft paint. Let the abrasives in the polish do the work, keep the pad moving and use light to medium pressure. On very soft clear coats, work a grade softer.
Knock out the polish dust after two or three sections, then wash it out in lukewarm water after use and let it dry lying flat. The open-cell thermo foam holds its shape better under heat than standard foam, which loses up to 85 per cent of its compression hardness, and so reaches up to six times the lifespan. A clogged pad just smears and should be replaced.
Before polishing, the paint has to be clean: washed, decontaminated and with the edges masked off. Otherwise tar or iron fallout residue lodges in the open-pore pad and drags fine scratches.
Prime new pads with a little polish before first use so the thermo foam takes it up evenly. Put a pea-sized amount of polish on the pad, spread it over the panel at about 1,000 rpm, then work it in with light to medium pressure at up to 1,800 rpm until the polish film turns clear. The hard red pad delivers its cut through the abrasives, not through the pressure you put on it.
Work in sections of about 40 by 40 centimetres, on DA or rotary, and knock out or swap the pad after two or three sections. The red grade is matched to a strong HC 4000 compound from the same colour system.
After correction comes a softer step for the finish. With the medium orange pad you then build a hologram-free finish and gloss before you seal.
Notes: The hard red pad is made for the correction step and won't finish hologram-free. On very soft Japanese clear coats a hard pad can leave holograms or overheat the paint locally — work a grade softer there. Too much pressure creates friction heat instead of cut. After use, wash out in lukewarm water, dry lying flat and store clean and dry. Replace a clogged or hardened pad.
